Bank

You must submit the following items for opening a bank account:

1) Application form for opening a bank account
2) Inkan (Name Seal) or your signatureWhen opening an account, you usually need an inkan (your own name seal).International students don't necessarily need an inkan. Instead, your signature will suffice.
3) Passport
4) Certificate of Residence or Resident Card

Post Office

You can send letters, packages, as well as make deposits and remit money at the post office. In regards to scholarships being received from the Japan Student Services Organization (a.k.a. JASSO) (which includes Japanese Government Scholarship Students, Japan-Korea Joint Government Scholarship Program to the students in Science and Engineer Departments Science and Engineering students, and Honors Scholarship for Privately-Financed International Students), JASSO pays scholarships directly into recipients' postal savings accounts (called "Paruru" in Japan). Therefore, please create a postal savings account if above-mentioned scholars have not done so already.
