School of Social Innovation

The School of Social Innovation was established in April 2026 as Kumamoto University’s ninth faculty, following the School of Informatics. The School equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary to identify and address a wide range of social challenges, from local communities to the international community. Through hands-on learning and practical engagement, students develop the ability to apply their knowledge and skills in real-world settings and create innovation—new forms of value that drive social transformation—to help realize a sustainable society.

The School offers an interdisciplinary curriculum that integrates the humanities and sciences in collaboration with the Faculties of Letters, Law, Science, and Engineering. Students acquire knowledge and skills in management, communication, and data science, while also developing interdisciplinary expertise and multifaceted thinking that transcend traditional academic boundaries. In addition, by working closely with local governments, business organizations, financial institutions, and other external partners to address real-world issues, students cultivate practical problem-solving skills and the ability to engage actively with society.

Graduates are expected to pursue diverse career paths in Japan and abroad, including positions in private companies across a wide range of industries, government agencies, financial institutions, social enterprises, and other sectors that contribute to solving societal challenges.
