The 8th Kumamoto University Forum to be held in Hanoi, Vietnam (December 4-5, 2010)
Indonesia in 2008. The objectives of this event are to increase the global presence of our University, to strengthen international networking and trained manpower.
Last year, Kumamoto University hosted International Presidential Forum which brought together the presidents and the vice presidents of 25 partner institutions located in 11 different countries.
This year, the 8th Kumamoto University Forum is being organized at Hanoi, Vietnam. The Forum will be held during December 4-5, 2010. This year has special significance as it marks the 1000th anniversary of the establishment of Hanoi City. The main theme of the Forum is - Academic Collaboration for Asian Development and Prosperity.
Kumamoto University has ongoing agreements with six universities from Vietnam. A large number of Vietnamese students are studying in Kumamoto University, mainly in the Graduate School of Science and Technology. Further, Kumamoto University has been a part of the ongoing JICA International Cooperation project in Vietnam titled, “Capacity Building of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology to Strengthen University-Community Linkage”. In recent years, Vietnam is successfully attracting major universites’ attention in Japan. In this context, Kumamoto University, with its emphasis on collaboration with Asian region, is particularly looking forward to enhanced academic exchanges with Vietnamese universities.
The aim of the Forum is to facilitate a range of presentations and speeches to better understand the history and future of the relationship. It will also provide a platform for academics and young researchers from the two countries to exchange relevant knowledge and experience in research and education. The event will be a combined conference including academic symposiums, oral and poster presentations, exhibitions, panel discussions (theme: new Horizons for Industry-University Collaboration under Globalization) and a signing ceremony of academic exchange agreements between Kumamoto University and its new partner institutions.
