<Event> Special Seminar by the Rector of the United Nations University: “The United Nations University: Its Role and Efforts Toward the SDGs”

We are pleased to announce a special seminar by Professor Tshilidzi Marwala, Rector of the United Nations University, as outlined below.
In this lecture, President Marwala will provide an overview of the United Nations University—the only UN organization headquartered in Japan and Asia—and speak about its efforts toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the impact of artificial intelligence, key considerations for the future, and his message to young people.
The lecture will be held both in on-site and online.
Please note that the lecture will be conducted in English only. No interpretation will be provided.

Prof. Tshilidzi Marwala, Rector of the United Nations University
Born in South Africa in 1971, Professor Tshilidzi Marwala earned his Ph.D. in Engineering from the University of Cambridge (UK) in 2000. Prior to his current role, he served as Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University of Johannesburg (South Africa) from 2018.
His research is highly interdisciplinary, covering the theoretical foundations of artificial intelligence (AI) as well as its applications in engineering, social sciences, economics, politics, finance, and healthcare. He is a registered Professional Engineer (PE) and holds five patents. He is also the author of over 20 books.
On March 1, 2023, Professor Marwala assumed office as the 7th Rector of the United Nations University and Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations. In August of the same year, he was appointed as a member of the UN Secretary-General’s newly established Scientific Advisory Board.
