Executive Vice President Tsuyoshi Usagawa Visits ITS (Indonesia) for Strengthening Collaboration
Kumamoto University’s Executive Vice President, Tsuyoshi Usagawa, visited the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) in Surabaya, Indonesia, from March 5th to 7th, 2025. During his visit, he held a courtesy meeting with ITS Rector, Prof. Bambang Pramujati, along with senior ITS leaders, including the Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, the Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, Cooperation, and Alumni, and the Director of Global Engagement.The discussions focused on strengthening the relationship between ITS and Kumamoto University, with both parties exploring potential opportunities for enhancing cooperation, particularly in the areas of research and academic collaboration.
In addition to the courtesy meeting, the visit also included participation in the JICA PREDICT-ITS*1 (referred to as PREDICT hereafter) Reunion seminar and a Semiconductor seminar at the Electrical Engineering Department on the ITS campus. The meeting was attended by several key figures, including former PREDICT Deputy Team Leader Dr. Kyoko Nakano, JICA SATREPS (Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development) staff member Ms. Yuko Ito, senior PREDICT members from the Electrical Engineering Department of ITS, Dr. Achmad Affandi and Dr. Wirawan, as well as Professor Ellen J. Kumaat, a staff member from the Higher Education Ministry. Professor Kumaat previously served as the rector of Universitas Sam Ratulangi (UNSRAT), a member university of The Consortium of ITS*2. Notably, Kumamoto University and The Consortium of ITS have maintained a collaboration agreement since 2008, aimed at promoting academic and student exchanges.
This visit marks an important milestone in strengthening international partnerships between Kumamoto University and ITS, as well as with the four other member universities of The Consortium of ITS. It lays the foundation for future collaborative research projects and academic exchanges, further enriching the ties between the institutions.
*1 JICA PREDICT-ITS (JICA Project for Research and Education Development on Information and Communication Technology at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember) aims to support ITS in boosting research capacity and contributing to the socio-economic development of Eastern Indonesia. The project focuses on postgraduate education, regional academic collaboration, and joint research with industry and government institutions. Kumamoto University is a key partner in its success.
*2 The Consortium of ITS: A consortium comprising Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), Universitas Sam Ratulangi (UNSRAT), Universitas Mataram (UNRAM), Universitas Cenderawasih (UNCEN), Universitas Nusa Cendana (UNDANA).
