Visit by UAAT (Taiwan) Member Universities for the Integrated Collaboration Project on Social Sciences and Humanities

On the morning of November 18, a delegation comprising members from three University Academic Alliance in Taiwan (UAAT) member universities—National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU), National Chengchi University (NCCU), and National Chung Hsing University (NCHU)—visited Kumamoto University. These universities serve as key coordinators in the Integrated Collaboration Project on Social Sciences and Humanities, led by NTNU. The delegation included executives responsible for research and development as well as faculty members specializing in social sciences and humanities.

The visit was organized under the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for international cooperation between UAAT and the Kyushu-Okinawa Open University (KOOU) platform, of which Kumamoto University is a member. The purpose of the visit was to exchange information and ideas to further develop international collaboration in research and education, with a particular focus on the social sciences and humanities.

From Kumamoto University, Executive Vice President Jun Otani, Vice President Mitsuyo Kishida, along with deans and faculty members from related fields, attended the meeting. Executive Vice President Otani kicked off the session with opening remarks and an overview of Kumamoto University, followed by the greetings from Professor Kwun-Min Chen, Executive Vice President of NTNU. Then a presentation was delivered by Prof. Ying-Shao Hsu, NTNU’s Vice President for Research and Development, highlighting UAAT-KOOU collaborative projects. Representatives from NTNU, NCCU, and NCHU then gave detailed presentations introducing their respective universities and outlining potential collaborative opportunities, laying the groundwork for future partnerships.

Following the meeting, the delegation toured Kumamoto University’s Eisei Bunko Research Center and International Research Center for Manga Studies, both of which showcased prominent and featured research initiatives. They also visited the Memorial Museum of the Fifth High School, a site designated as a National Important Cultural Property, offering insights into the university’s rich historical and cultural heritage.

This visit not only deepened mutual understanding but also served as a valuable opportunity for meaningful exchanges and substantial discussions on potential collaborations in the social sciences and humanities. It marked significant progress in advancing UAAT-KOOU partnership initiatives.
