Courtesy Visit by Guilin University of Technology (China)

On December 4, a delegation from Guilin University of Technology (GUT), led by President Dunqiu Wang, paid a courtesy visit to President Hisao Ogawa of Kumamoto University (KU). Vice President Jun Otani and Dean Hiroshi Isobe of the Faculty of Advanced Science and Technology also attended the meeting.

During the meeting, President Wang noted that GUT will celebrate its 70th anniversary in two years and highlighted the long-standing partnership with KU, which began over two decades ago. He expressed his desire to continue strengthening this valuable collaboration. President Ogawa emphasized that Guilin and Kumamoto are sister cities, providing a strong foundation for further enhancing ties between the two universities, and expressed his hope for continued fruitful exchange.

Following the meeting, the delegation toured the Memorial Museum of the Fifth High School and the Chemical Laboratory of the Fifth High School on KU’s Kurokami Campus. Both sites are designated as National Important Cultural Properties.

The delegation also met with five GUT students currently studying at KU. President Wang showed great interest in their academic experiences and encouraged them to continue their studies diligently, broaden their perspectives, and contribute to fostering closer ties between GUT and KU.

KU first signed an inter-departmental exchange agreement with GUT in 1999, followed by an inter-university agreement in 2015. This visit is expected to further deepen the partnership between the two institutions.
