Study in Japan ITS Office Launched in Surabaya, Indonesia

On September 17th, 2024, the Study in Japan ITS Office was officially launched at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) in Surabaya, Indonesia. This initiative is part of the Global Network Project to Promote Study in Japan (ASEAN Region), spearheaded by Okayama University (OU), with Kumamoto University (KU) participating as a key partner. Originally functioning as a liaison office for KU and the Six National Universities Network (SUN), the office’s mission has now been significantly expanded. It will serve as a strategic hub for students, scholars, and professionals interested in exploring educational opportunities in Japan,
 
The ceremony commenced with warm greetings from Rector Bambang Pramujati of ITS and followed by remarks from Vice President Mitsuyo Kishida of KU and Professor Isao Kadota of OU. Attendees form ITS included the Director of Directorate of Education, Senior Manager of ITS Global Engagement Office on International Partnership and representatives of lecturers and staff from Global Language Center from. The excitement reached its peak with a ceremonial ribbon cutting and the unveiling of the office name board, which was met with enthusiastic applause and cheers, marking a significant milestone in this international collaboration.
 
The second half of the event featured presentations introducing the office’s new functions and objectives, along with information sessions on studying at KU and OU. Adding a touch of Japanese culture, an interactive Origami workshop captivated the audience. Under the instructor’s guidance, students skillfully folded paper into a variety of designs, experiencing Japanese tradition firsthand.
 
Looking ahead, a sister Study in Japan Office is set to launch in Jakarta on September 24th, 2024. Together, these offices will enhance efforts to promote study opportunities in Japan facing the needs from Indonesia and the broader Southeast Asia region, further strengthening the bonds of collaboration and friendship between Indonesia and Japan.
