Courtesy Visit by the Ambassador of the Republic of India
On September 9th, His Excellency Mr. Sibi George, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India, and his delegation visited Kumamoto University for a courtesy call. The visit included a meeting with President Hisao Ogawa, attended by Executive Vice President Jun Otani and Vice President Mitsuyo Kishida.During the meeting, President Ogawa expressed gratitude to Ambassador George and highlighted the ongoing exchange activities between Kumamoto University and India, involving students and faculty. He also acknowledged the contributions of Indian faculty members to the university's research vitality and the internationalization of its educational environment, and expressed a desire to further advance academic exchanges between the two countries.
Ambassador George thanked Kumamoto University for hosting the visit and shared insightful recommendations for enhancing the intake of Indian students. His suggestions included the provision of scholarships, strengthening promotional strategies, and improving Japanese language education. Four Indian faculty members and one Indian student were also involved in the meeting, and conversations and discussions were conducted in a cordial atmosphere.
Kumamoto University, in addition to its inter-university exchange agreement with the Indian Institute of Science, has established inter-department exchange agreements with another five universities. Collaborative research projects in astronomy and semiconductor fields are currently underway, and the meeting reaffirmed the commitment to deepening these cooperative efforts.
Following the meeting, Ambassador George and his delegation visited the Memorial Museum of the Fifth High School, an Important Cultural Property located on KU's Kurokami Campus. This visit provided a valuable opportunity to delve into the rich history of the university.
