On Tuesday, August 27, 2024, StapleBio Inc., a venture recognized by Kumamoto University and founded by Associate Professor Yousuke Katsuda from the Faculty of Advanced Science and Technology, clinched victory at the Kyushu Regional Startup World Cup 2024, held at Kumamoto Castle Hall. This prestigious event, one of the largest business pitch competitions globally, features regional qualifiers in over 100 countries and regions.
Among eleven competing ventures—ranging from logistics services and medical equipment to electric vehicle charging—StapleBio Inc. distinguished itself with its innovative focus on drug discovery using synthetic nucleic acids. The company's mission is to rapidly develop treatments for rare diseases and pandemic infections that have previously been untreatable.
With this win, StapleBio has secured its place as one of Japan’s representatives and will advance to the world final in San Francisco this October. There, they will compete alongside the winners from the Kyoto and Tokyo regionals and top startups from around the globe, contending for an investment prize of approximately $1 million.
