08_4_Admission Fee Exemption and Postponement

[Note]
The applicants for admission fee exemption / postponement do not pay the admission fee until the results are announced.
Students who want to apply for tuition fee exemption only, (ex: students who will be admit as internal a higher-level school) should also download Application Guidebook the below.

Students eligible for exemption and postponement

1. Students eligible for exemption

(1) Students newly enrolled in faculties and graduate schools.
[a] Students who are recognized as having difficulty in paying the admission fee due to economic reasons (excluding repayment of various loans and debts) and who have excellent academic performance.
[b] Students who are recognized as having extreme difficulty in paying the admission fee due to the death of academic expenses supporter within one year prior to admission, or due to academic expenses supporter or students themselves who have suffered damage from natural disaster in Japan within one year prior to admission.
[c] Students who have a reason(s) equivalent to the preceding items and deemed adequate by the President.

 

2. Students eligible for postponement

(1) Students newly enrolled in faculties and graduate schools.
[a] Students who have difficulty paying the admission fee by the payment deadline for economic reasons (excluding repayment of various loans and debts) and who have an excellent academic performance.
[b] Students who are recognized as having extreme difficulty in paying the admission fee due to the death of academic expenses supporter within one year prior to admission, or due to academic expenses supporter or students themselves who have suffered damage from natural disaster in Japan within one year prior to admission.
[c] Students who have been considered to have (an)other compelling reason(s).

[Note] The postponement of admission fee is not exemption, it only extends the deadline for payment of the admission fee. Please note that you have to pay the admission fee.
 

Application procedures

Students who wish to obtain permission to claim the exemption or postponement of the admission fee must input to the online application system and submit the following documents to the Economic Support Office, Student Life Division. Online application must be completed in order to proceed to document submission.
 
Please download the application guidebook (FY2024 ver. for October Admission students), and submit the application documents by the deadline.

Application distribution period

The application distribution period varies depending on the announcement date of successful applicants. Please follow the procedures according to the Admission Procedures and Entrance Ceremony Guide.
 

Submission period

Please read the guidebook carefully, and submit the application documents after input to the online application system. The submission period, that written at the application guidebook. Please purchase "Letter Pack Light" and mail it with all the completed application documents and the original certificates. Unable enter Japan by the deadline, please read the application guidebook.

[Note] Applicants must be submitted in person (application by proxy will not be accepted). Any claim after the deadline will not be accepted.
 

Screening method

For students who have met academic performance criteria and household status criteria, we will prioritize students who are in great distress within the budget of the University.

* As exemptions are granted based on the University's budget, fulfilling academic performance criteria and household criteria does not guarantee the exemption.
 

How to check the selection result

Please check the Kumamoto University Academic Affairs Information System SOSEKI (https://uportal.kumamoto-u.ac.jp/) "Tuition Payment Status" by yourself. The timing of announcement of the selection results is as follows. You will be notified on the on-campus bulletin board that the results are announced.
-Admission fee exemption / Postponement:  late-October(scheduled)
-Tuition fee (first semester): late-June(scheduled): late-November(scheduled)

 

Notes

Regarding the exemption results are "Not admitted" and "Half exemption", must pay the admission fee within two weeks after the results is announced (scheduled from early- to mid- December).
Since the payment period is short, it is recommended that those who apply for admission fee exemption also apply for postponement.

If the admission fee postponement is permitted, the deadline for payment is until January 31, 2025, but if it is not permitted, you must make payment within two weeks after the results are announced.
For those who need to pay the admission fee after the announcement, the transfer request form will be sent to the guarantor for undergraduate students, and to the students themselves for graduate students.
