Notes:

・The column for the number of applicants for entrance indicates the number of applicants by category who have submitted application forms according to the application guidelines.

・The column for the number of new students indicates the number of students by age (as of April 1) who are enrolled in the university as of May 1, 2017, out of the students who entered the university in AY 2017 (including those admitted to the university to fill up vacancies, but excluding transfer students). Accordingly, those who withdrew or were expelled from the university before May 1 after completing admission procedures are not included. International students who have entered the university without taking the entrance examination (government-financed students, foreign-government sponsored students, etc.) are included.

・Students who have graduated a foreign school refer to those who have completed 12 years of school education or its equivalent in a foreign country and those designated by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, as prescribed in Article 150, item (i) of the Ordinance for Enforcement of the School Education Act.

・Students who have graduated from the upper secondary course of a specialized training college refer to those who have completed the upper secondary course of a specialized training college, as prescribed in Article 150, item (iii) of the Ordinance for Enforcement of the School Education Act.

・Other students (students achieving the proficiency level of upper secondary school graduates, etc.) refer to those other than the aforementioned students and those stipulated in Article 150 of the Ordinance for Enforcement of the School Education Act (those who have passed the examination for the Certificate for Students Achieving the Proficiency Level of Upper Secondary School Graduates conducted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science, and Technology pursuant to the Rules for Certificate for Students Achieving the Proficiency Level of Upper Secondary School Graduates 〈Ordinance of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology No. 1 of 2005〉).

・International students refer to those who have entered Japan with the status of residence of “Student” as prescribed in Appendix 1-4 of Article 2(2) of the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act. Those who have entered Japan with another status of residence stipulated in the said act and have been permitted to change their status of residence to “Student” after following the prescribed procedures are also deemed as international students.

・If students have been admitted to the faculty of their second choice because of the results of the entrance examination after applying for several faculties according to the application guidelines, they are included in the columns for the number of applicants for entrance and new students to the faculty of their second choice.
