A Delegation from the University of Greifswald (Germany) Visits Kumamoto University
On February 18, 2026, Kumamoto University welcomed a delegation from the University of Greifswald, Germany, consisting of Professor Daniel Schiller, Vice Rector for Research and Transfer and Professor of Economic and Social Geography, and Dr. Max Roessler, a postdoctoral researcher.
During the visit, the delegation met with Executive Vice President Jun Otani, who provided an overview of the University and introduced key platforms that support research, industry collaboration, and talent development, including the Research and Education Institute for Semiconductors and Informatics (REISI), the Semiconductor Open Innovation Laboratory (SOIL), and the adjacent education facility D-Square. The delegation showed strong interest in Kumamoto University’s approaches to university–industry collaboration and human resource development, leading to an active exchange of views.
Following the meeting, the delegation toured SOIL and expressed strong interest in its advanced semiconductor equipment as well as its open, cooperative environment that enables close collaboration between academia and industry.
The delegation also expressed its intention to visit Kumamoto University again in the next academic year to further explore opportunities for more concrete collaboration. This visit is expected to serve as an important step toward strengthening and expanding cooperation between the two universities.
