Kumamoto University Participates in the 7th DDP (Double Degree Program) Commemorative Symposium in Thailand
The 7th DDP (Double Degree Program) Commemorative Symposium was held at Mahidol University in Thailand from January 29 to 31, 2026.
The Graduate School of Medical Sciences at Kumamoto University is promoting the internationalization of graduate education by offering lectures in English and introducing e-learning. To date, we have concluded a total of eight double degree program agreements with universities in Thailand, China, and Malta, including Mahidol University. Through these agreements, we have accepted 10 DDP students so far, and five of them have earned doctoral degrees.
The symposium was held under the theme “Biomedical Synergy: Decoding the Complexity of Human Disease,” and participants from Kumamoto University, Mahidol University, Chiang Mai University, and Khon Kaen University in Thailand, as well as Kyungpook National University in the Republic of Korea, presented their research.
Eight faculty members from Kumamoto University attended the symposium, including Professor Yuichi Oike, M.D., Ph.D., Dean of the Graduate School of Medical Sciences. They engaged in enthusiastic discussions with researchers from the other universities.
In addition, business meetings among the participating universities were held alongside the symposium, where participants engaged in lively discussions about the future of the double degree programs.
Next year’s symposium is scheduled to be held at Khon Kaen University in Thailand.
