Courtesy Visit by Universitas Negeri Surabaya (Indonesia)
On January 21st, 2026, a delegation from Universitas Negeri Surabaya(UNESA), Indonesia, led by President Prof. Dr. Nurhasan, M. Kes., visited Kumamoto University (KU).The visit began with a meeting between the delegation and Professor Hiroshi Isobe, Dean of the Faculty of Advanced Science and Technology, along with Professor Mio Nonaka from the same faculty. The group then paid a courtesy call on KU President Hisao Ogawa. The president’s daughter who is pursuing her research in our doctoral program and Professor Kazuya Yamagata from the Faculty of Life Sciences, who is currently supervising her, also joined the meeting. She expressed that Kumamoto University offers an outstanding research environment and supervisors, allowing her to engage in highly fulfilling research activities.
During the discussions, both parties reviewed their ongoing collaboration and expressed a mutual desire to further expand cooperation in various academic areas through student and research exchanges, as well as international conferences. Notably, UNESA representatives suggested inviting KU researchers to serve as keynote speakers at future events.
Since 2020, Universitas Negeri Surabaya has had an inter-faculty academic exchange and student exchange program with Kumamoto University. This visit marks a significant step forward in fostering even broader collaboration between the two institutions in the future.
