Prof. Edward Yi Chang of NYCU Visits Kumamoto University
On December 25, 2025, Professor Edward Yi Chang, Life Chair Professor at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU), visited Kumamoto University.
During his visit, Prof. Chang met with President Hisao Ogawa, Executive Vice President Jun Otani, and Professor Akio Wakejima (the Research and Education Institute for Semiconductors and Informatics) to exchange views on research and educational collaboration and future opportunities for cooperation between the two institutions.
Professor Chang also toured the atomic-resolution analytical electron microscope housed at the Open Innovation Center (OIC), as well as SOIL (Semiconductor Open Innovation Laboratory), an open-lab facility designed to promote industry–academia–government collaborative research in the semiconductor field. Through these visits, he gained deeper insight into Kumamoto University’s research environment and its distinctive approaches to education and research.
In addition, discussions were further held on concrete joint research initiatives and human resource development, particularly in the field of semiconductors, making the visit a valuable opportunity to advance collaboration.
Since concluding an inter-university agreement with National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University in 2023, Kumamoto University has been deepening collaboration in both education and research, with a particular emphasis on human resource development in the field of semiconductors.
Though this visit, it is expected that the cooperative relationship between the two universities will be further advanced.
