Kumamoto University–Mansfield Foundation Collaborative Lecture Series Reaches the Midpoint: Information on the Remaining Four Sessions
Kumamoto University is hosting the Kumamoto–Mansfield Foundation Collaborative Lecture Series in partnership with the Maureen and Mike Mansfield Foundation of the United States (hereinafter referred to as the Mansfield Foundation). The lecture series consists of a total of eight sessions, and the first four sessions have now been completed. This seminar invites Mansfield Fellows currently in Japan as well as former Fellows as lecturers, and is open not only to members of the university but also to participants from outside the university. Through lectures delivered from the perspective of practitioners, the lectures provide participants with opportunities to gain insight into contemporary global society and to better understand current developments in the United States and around the world.
Following the introductory session, the second session featured a lecture by Mr. James-Darrell Racca; the third session included lectures by Mr. Christopher Dong and Mr. Nick Wilson; and the fourth session was delivered by Mr. Courtney Yountz, a former Mansfield Fellow. The lectures were held in a hybrid format, attracting participation from Kumamoto University students as well as faculty, staff, and members of the wider community. Lectures on international affairs and policy issues, together with lively question-and-answer sessions, generated strong interest among students, faculty, and general participants.
In addition, a Mansfield Café featuring Mr. James-Darrell Racca, the lecturer for the second session, was held as a community exchange event with local residents. Furthermore, during the third session, a Meet & Greet was organized, providing an opportunity for Kumamoto University students and the lecturers to engage in informal discussions on topics beyond the regular lecture content.
The remaining seminar sessions are scheduled to take place on January 9, 23, and 30, and February 6, 2026. In addition, Mansfield Café events are planned for January 10 and January 24, 2026.
