Delegation from Kaohsiung Medical University (Taiwan) Pays Courtesy Visit to Kumamoto University
On November 25, 2025, a delegation from Kaohsiung Medical University (KMU), Taiwan, Prof. Ming-Lung Yu, President, Prof. Po-Liang Lu, Dean of the College of Medicine, and Assoc. Prof. Wan-Chi Tsai of the College of Health Sciences, visited Kumamoto University.To begin with, the inter-university academic exchange agreement between Kumamoto University and KMU, as well as the inter-department exchange agreement between the Graduate School of Medical Sciences and School of Medicine of Kumamoto University and the College of Medicine of KMU, were formally signed. This signing marks a significant step forward in strengthening academic collaboration between the two institutions.
Following the signing ceremony, the delegation toured the Memorial Museum of the Fifth High School on the Kurokami Campus and then paid a courtesy visit to President Hisao Ogawa and Executive Vice President Jun Otani. During the meeting, both sides engaged in discussions on further developing educational and research collaboration.
President Yu highlighted the longstanding partnership between the two universities, particularly in HBV/HCV research, noting the many international co-authored publications produced through this collaboration. Given the deep ties between Kumamoto and Kaohsiung, which include direct flights and a sister-city relationship, he expressed a strong intention to further expand student mobility and joint research initiatives.
In response, President Ogawa also conveyed his expectations for enhancing cooperation between the two universities, including the potential development of double or joint degree programs, as well as other forms of deeper academic engagement.
Kumamoto University places great importance on advancing international cooperation in medical education and research. This visit is expected to serve as a catalyst for more substantive and sustainable collaboration between the two universities in the years ahead.
