Kumamoto University Delegation Participates in the Japan–India University Forum at IIT Hyderabad —Faculty Members Also Attend the “Japan Academic Day” on the Following Day—

On November 15, 2025, President Hisao Ogawa and a delegation from Kumamoto University participated in the 4th Japan–India University Forum, organized by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST). The forum was hosted by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad and brought together university leaders from major institutions in Japan and India to discuss strengthened collaboration in education and research.
 
A welcome reception was held on the previous evening, providing valuable opportunities for networking with representatives from participating universities. During the forum, President Ogawa served as co-chair with President B. S. Murty of IIT Hyderabad for the roundtable session on “Strengthening Japan–India Collaboration in AI and ICT,” where participants exchanged views on expanding joint doctoral programs, promoting collaborative research, and facilitating researcher and student mobility.
 
The delegation also held individual meetings with several institutions, including IIT Hyderabad, IIT Gandhinagar, BITS Pilani, Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), and the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Pune. Discussions focused on accepting doctoral students, promoting joint research, and exploring potential university-level agreements, laying the groundwork for future cooperation.

Participation in the “3rd Japan Academic Day at IIT Hyderabad” on November 16

On the following day, November 16, Associate Professor Rwitajit Majumdar (Research and Education Institute for Semiconductors and Informatics) and Professor Tomohiko Igasaki (Faculty of Advanced Science and Technology) from Kumamoto University took part in the “3rd Japan Academic Day,” also held at IIT Hyderabad.
 
Around 20 Japanese universities hosted booths at the event, providing information sessions and study-abroad guidance to Indian students. The Kumamoto University booth drew many highly motivated students, including those who inquired enthusiastically about graduate studies at the Graduate School of Science and Technology. Their strong interest highlighted the growing aspirations among Indian students to study in Japan.

Through these engagements, Kumamoto University further strengthened its academic ties with India and took an important step toward expanding collaborative research and student and researcher exchange between the two countries.
