Fulbright Lecture: “Explore New Horizons Abroad for Medical Doctors” Held at Kumamoto University

On October 21, 2025, Kumamoto University (KU) hosted a Fulbright lecture titled “Explore New Horizons Abroad for Medical Doctors.” Around 30 participants, including KU students, faculty members, and local high school students, attended the event.

The speakers were Dr. Shigeyoshi Yamanaga (Director, Department of Transplant Surgery, Kumamoto Red Cross Hospital), Dr. Joyce Trompeta (Professor of Surgery, UCSF, and Fulbright Scholar), and Dr. Kiyotaka Uchino (Surgical Resident, Kumamoto Red Cross Hospital). They discussed the current status of organ transplantation in Japan and the U.S., and shared their experiences of study and research abroad.

Many student participants are considering overseas study, and an active exchange followed on topics such as the challenges of transplantation medicine and learning in multicultural environments.

Kumamoto University will continue to provide opportunities for students to broaden their international perspectives.
