On August 28, 2025, the Indonesian Student Association in Japan, Kumamoto Chapter (PPIJK), led by Mr. Ilham Rais-a doctoral student at the Graduate School of Science and Technology, Kumamoto University-held an online orientation via Zoom for incoming Indonesian students. The event was organized in collaboration with seven dedicated committee members, all current students at Kumamoto University.
The session welcomed 35 Indonesian students who will begin their degree and non-degree programs at Kumamoto University in October 2025. Participants hailed from a range of prestigious institutions, including Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Universitas Brawijaya (UB), Telkom University (TEL-U), Universitas Islam Negeri Sunan Ampel (UINSA), Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII), Universitas Mulawarman (UNMUL), and Chulalongkorn University.
During the two-hour event, the committee delivered a comprehensive overview covering pre-departure preparations, daily life in Japan, cultural do’s and don’ts, practical tips and tricks, as well as step-by-step administrative procedures—drawn from their own firsthand experiences. The session not only provided essential guidance but also served to motivate and inspire students to make the most of their academic journey in Japan.
One key highlight was the emphasis on the strong solidarity and active role of the Indonesian student community in Kumamoto. Incoming students were reassured that they would receive a full support system and quickly find a new “family” within the vibrant Indonesian community in Japan.
