Visit of Delegation from Universitas Negeri Malang (Indonesia) to Kumamoto University
On August 25, 2025, a delegation from Universitas Negeri Malang (UM), Indonesia, led by Vice Rector Prof. Ir. Arif Nur Afandi (Kumamoto University alumnus and Liaison Professor), visited Kumamoto University.Established in 1954, Universitas Negeri Malang is one of Indonesia’s most esteemed and historically significant comprehensive universities. Originating as a Faculty of Education, it now comprises 10 faculties and offers 119 programs ranging from bachelor’s to doctoral levels, consistently ranked among the top higher education institutions in Indonesia.
The main purpose of the visit was to attend the signing ceremony and engage in discussions related to the inter-faculty academic exchange agreement. The delegation first toured laboratories at Kumamoto University, where they held active discussions on the potential for future academic collaboration, particularly in the field of electric power, together with Professor Kobayashi and Associate Professor Yasunami. This was followed by the signing ceremony and further discussions with Professor Isobe, Dean of the Faculty of Advanced Science and Technology, Professor Ihara, Dean of the Graduate School of Science and Technology, as well as Professors Kishida and Mizumoto.
The visit concluded with a meeting with Executive Vice President Jun Otani, during which future collaborations—especially through the role of alumnus and Liaison Professor—were actively discussed. Vice Rector Afandi, who earned his Ph.D. at Kumamoto University, shares a strong bond with the university, and this reunion is expected to further strengthen ties between the two institutions and the activities of the Kumamoto University Alumni Association Indonesia.
