Expanding Global Horizons: Kumamoto University ITS Office Connects with Indonesian Students through Key International Education Events
The Kumamoto University Liaison Office/Study in Japan ITS (Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember) Office recently strengthened its outreach to prospective students in Indonesia by actively participating in two major international education events: the Let’s Study Abroad (LSA) Event 2025 and AERO 2025, Airlangga University’s flagship internationalization fair. Held back-to-back on May 8 and 9 respectively, both events showcased Kumamoto University’s ongoing commitment to global engagement and academic collaboration in Southeast Asia.Connecting at the LSA 2025 Event
The LSA 2025 event, held on May 8 at the Global Kampung Lobby of ITS Surabaya, served as a vibrant platform for Indonesian students to explore study abroad opportunities. As a key initiative under ITS’s Global Partnership program, LSA brought together leading universities from Japan, Malaysia, Vietnam, Russia, India, and Taiwan to connect directly with students and provide guidance on academic programs, scholarships, and international student life.
Representing Kumamoto University, Ms. Mia Hernawati, at Kumamoto University Liaison Office/Study in Japan ITS Office in Surabaya, engaged in meaningful one-on-one consultations with dozens of eager students. Her discussions highlighted the diverse range of degree and non-degree programs available at Kumamoto University, particularly those designed to welcome international students and foster cross-cultural exchange. With her experience and insight, Ms. Hernawati helped demystify the process of studying in Japan and inspired many students to consider consider Japan—particularly Kumamoto University—as a future academic destination.
Spotlight at AERO 2025
The momentum continued the following day at AERO 2025, hosted from May 8–10 at Airlangga University’s bustling Campus B Science Park. This dynamic three-day event brought together 21 international institutions from countries such as Australia, France, Uzbekistan, Singapore, and Pakistan. Aimed at expanding students’ global outlook, AERO offered an immersive environment for dialogue, discovery, and international networking.
Kumamoto University, a longstanding partner of Airlangga University, proudly participated in this year’s event. During the event’s “Global Talks” session, Ms. Hernawati once again represented Kumamoto University on stage, delivering a concise yet informative presentation about the university’s academic strengths and international programs. She was joined by Mr. Amriza, an Indonesian undergraduate student who recently returned from Kumamoto after completing the JASSO STEP Program in October 2024. His heartfelt reflection on his experience studying in Kumamoto University offered a powerful, real-life perspective to students aspiring to pursue similar opportunities.
Strengthening Global Engagement
Kumamoto University’s participation in both LSA 2025 and AERO 2025 reflects its strategic commitment to internationalization and nurturing meaningful academic partnerships in Southeast Asia. With Indonesia serving as a key hub of collaboration, the Kumamoto University Liaison Office/Study in Japan ITS continues to play a vital role in guiding and supporting students on their journey toward global education.
These events not only allowed the University to share information about its academic offerings and scholarship opportunities but also helped deepen trust and collaboration with Indonesian partner universities. As Kumamoto University continues to expand its international footprint, such engagements will remain integral to shaping a globally minded academic community.
