Courtesy Visit by National Taiwan University of Science and Technology

On February 20th, 2025, a delegation from the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST) visited Kumamoto University (KU). The delegation was led by Professor Po Ting Lin and Assistant Professor Hirohito Kobayashi from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, accompanied by two staff members from the Chung-Hua Institution for Economic Research. Representing KU were Executive Vice President Jun Otani and Vice President Mitsuyo Kishida.

The meeting began with an overview from Executive Vice President Otani, who highlighted the university's key initiatives and focus areas. This was followed by a presentation from Professor Lin, who introduced NTUST's Department of Mechanical Engineering. He shared that NTUST has recently established the "Graduate Institute of Advanced Semiconductor Technology" within the Industry-Academia Innovation College, which aligns with the shared goal of advancing semiconductor-related education and research. Additionally, Professor Lin introduced the International Advanced Technology Program, a full English-language program, with the aim of increasing student mobility between the two universities. In response, KU expressed strong interest in fostering collaboration, proposing the initiation of practical short-term lab internships or start-up programs to promote student exchange. Both universities also expressed a desire for research collaboration in the fields of biomedical engineering and semiconductors.

KU is a member of the Kyushu-Okinawa Open University (KOOU), an association of 11 national universities in the Kyushu-Okinawa region, while NTUST is a member of the University Academic Alliance in Taiwan (UAAT). KOOU and UAAT have a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on international cooperation. This visit marks the first step toward strengthening ties between the two universities for future collaboration.
