Courtesy Meetings in UGM and UII (Indonesia): A Prelude to the "Study in Japan" Event
On January 17th, 2025, the representatives from Kumamoto University visited Yogyakarta (Indonesia) for courtesy meetings with members from Gadjah Mada University (UGM) and Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII). The delegation led by Mr. Kenji Kakuta (Executive Director, International Affairs Department) included Mr. Shinya Murakami and Mr. Ken Utoguchi from International Education Department), and Ms. Mia Hernawati from Kumamoto University Liaison Office/Study in Japan ITS Office.The meetings focused on exploring collaborative opportunities in student exchange programs, joint research, and scholarships for Indonesian students wishing to study in Japan. These discussions served as a key prelude to the upcoming "Study in Japan" event, set for February 2025, aimed at strengthening academic ties between Indonesia and Japan.
A highlight of the visit was the campus tour at UGM, where Kumamoto University representatives were introduced to UGM’s innovative sustainability initiatives, including a newly launched electric vehicle (EV). This EV, part of UGM’s commitment to green technology, marked the first time the Kumamoto delegation had the chance to ride in such a vehicle, showcasing UGM’s environmental efforts.
The visit emphasizes the growing educational collaboration between Indonesia and Japan. Both UGM and UII expressed enthusiasm about future student exchanges and research partnerships with Kumamoto University, further enhancing the bilateral relationship.
The "Study in Japan" event in February is expected to attract many students interested in learning about opportunities at Kumamoto University. It will also cover scholarships, visa processe/procedure, and student life in Japan.
