President Taniguchi Attends The 45th Anniversary Celebration of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology

On December 13th, 2014, the Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology (Taiwan), one of our university-level exchange partners, celebrated the 45th anniversary of its founding. In attendance were President Isao Taniguchi and Prof. Shuichi Torii, vice-director of the Center for Globalization.
The Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology (STUST) is one of Taiwan’s leading science and technology universities, and is comprised of four colleges and a graduate school. Since entering into a partnership with Kumamoto University in 2008, together the two schools have actively developed researcher/student exchange programs and joint research projects.

A total of approximately 1,000 people attended the ceremony, among whom were representatives of six overseas partner institutions from five countries, visitors from Zagreb School of Economics and Management (Croatia) and Johannes Kepler University (Austria), as well as STUST faculty, alumni, and current students. The celebration was held in an auditorium on the STUST campus, and President Taniguchi was invited to give a congratulatory address to the university.

The delegation from Kumamoto University also took a tour of the campus, which included a visit to the College of Engineering, the library, and an exhibition hall of historic machinery.

President Taniguchi met with Dr. Chein Tai, president of STUST, where they talked about further developing the academic/research exchange between the two universities and agreed on the goal of deepening the friendship between STUST and KU.
