Summer Program Held for Students from Kumamoto University’s partner universities
The Kumamoto University Summer Program took place from Monday, July 30 through Saturday, August 11, 2012.
This program is designed to invite undergraduate students from Kumamoto University’s overseas partner universities for a short stay in Japan, so that they can experience the beauty of Japan and Kumamoto, while deepening their interest and understanding of this country. Classes were given in Japanese, so the participants were required to have sufficient Japanese language skills to understand basic words and expressions used in classroom lessons.
In addition to Japanese language and Japanese studies classes, the Summer Program provided abundant exchange opportunities, including hands-on experiences of Japanese culture (wearing kimono, learning tea ceremony, making Japanese traditional sweets), study trips (to Kumamoto City and Aso) and a get-together with Kumamoto University students. On the final day of the program, study report sessions were held by group. With the help of volunteer student supporters from Kumamoto University, participating students gave presentations on what they had learned and felt during their two-week stay in Japan. Students who successfully completed the program were awarded a program completion certificate by the President of Kumamoto University.
Marking the sixth year since its start in academic year 2007, the latest summer program welcomed a total of 39 participants from Kumamoto University’s partner universities in China, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Germany.
