Six Universities Network/International Education & Research System, Japan (SUN/SixERS), whose membership includes Kumamoto University, held a summer seminar at Mahidol University in Bangkok, Thailand, with its medical department on August 28th 2013. Professor Kazuhito Tomizawa, who belongs to our university's Faculty of Life Sciences (medical-related) in the department of Molecular Physiology, attended the seminar and gave a lecture. In an effort to increase interaction among students and further promote internationalization within the field of life sciences, members of the Six Universities Network (SUN) and ASEAN University Network (AUN) signed a partnership agreement at Madihol University earlier this year, in April. This conference in Thailand was held in recognition of this newly forged partnership.
On the day of the conference, 6 professors of Life Science from SUN, as well as 12 professors from the medical department of Madihol University (Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital), around 50 medical students from Madihol University, and a number of students from AUN-affiliated universities in Brunei attended the conference. Professor Tomizawa's latest research was presented along with an announcement about HIGO program created by Kumamoto University and selected by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science & Technology as “Program for Leading Graduate Schools”. This conference helped promote greater interest in the program among conference attendees.
