University Science Festival Commemorates 60th Anniversary
As part of its 60th anniversary celebration, Kumamoto University participated in the 2009 Science Festival which was held from November 20 to November 29 in National Museum of Nature and Science,Tokyo.
The title of the festival was -Control of Extreme Conditions! Shock Wave Technology and KUMADAI MG- Pioneer the Future.
The festival began when the President of Kumamoto University, and the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Professor Morozumi cut the ribbon and welcomed many visitors to the exhibition. Students of all ages, many accompanied by their parents, enjoyed the festival.
Nippon Television from Tokyo reported on the exhibition and featured the new generation oven now being developed at the Shock Wave and Condensed Matter Research Center at Kumamoto University.
The Shock Wave and Condensed Matter Center studies involve a method that concentrates energy and transforms it into a momentarily-high-energy pressure pulse. This power is called shock wave energy and can be applied in various types of fields such as medical care, dietary uses, new material development, process technology and household electrical goods.
In the exhibition at the festival, MG alloys developed in Kumamoto University in 2001 were also presented. This MG alloy is named KUMADAI (Kumamoto University) MG and has been under development to be put into to practical use in cooperation with Kumamoto Prefecture and Kumamoto Technology and Industry Foundation as well as private enterprises in Japan.
