Professor Janitha A. Liyanage of University of Kelaniya visits Kumamoto University
On October 23, four delegation members including Professor Janitha A. Liyanage, who is the Director of Gampaha Wickramarachchi Ayurveda Institute, University of Kelaniya in Sri Lanka, made a courtesy call on President Taniguchi of Kumamoto University. The University of Kelaniya was founded in 1875 as a learning center for monks. In 1978, the learning center became the University of Kelaniya, now one of the top level universities in Sri Lanka.
The professor’s visit to Kumamoto University this time became possible with the previous visit of Associate Professor Yahara of the Center for Medicinal Resources and Ecology (School of Pharmacy) and Assistant Professor Devkota of the Priority Organization for Innovation and Excellence of Kumamoto University to the University of Kelaniya in June this year.
The courtesy call ended amicably after the introduction to Kumamoto University and related matters by President Taniguchi and the introduction to the University of Kelaniya by ProfessorJanitha A. Liyanage. In the morning of the same day, a signing ceremony for a department-level exchange agreement was held at Kumamoto University's Faculty of Life Sciences. Taking this visit as an opportunity, both universities are expected to further deepen their exchanges in the future.
