An Invitation to Support Kumamoto University

Scholarships for International Students

Daicel Foundation Academic Support Scholarship
In May 2023, Kumamoto University entered into a comprehensive partnership agreement with Daicel Corporation. This collaboration aims to jointly create new value not yet seen in society and promote its implementation through research, human resource development, and regional collaboration. As part of this initiative, the Daicel Foundation Academic Support Scholarship was established to support self-funded international students enrolled in the Graduate School of Science and Technology.



TSMC Scholarship
In March 2024, we signed an agreement with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited (TSMC), a world-leading semiconductor foundry in Taiwan, to promote industry-academia collaboration in the field of semiconductor research and human resource development. As part of this initiative, and in response to the urgent need to secure talent in the semiconductor field, the "TSMC Scholarship" was established in the 2024 academic year to support the studies of first-year master’s students enrolled in the Graduate School of Science and Technology who are engaged in semiconductor-related research and expected to play a leading role in the industry.


 

Economic Support in Response to Rising Living Costs

We provide support for students who are unable to focus on their studies due to financial difficulties, helping to create a secure and stable learning environment.

Support for Purchasing Textbooks and Other Educational Materials (AY2023)
To assist scholarship loan recipients impacted by rising living costs, we distributed 5,000-yen book vouchers for the purchase of textbooks and other academic materials.

On-Campus Food Support (AY2023)
Food support was provided via discounted meals and food items (10,500 meals) through the Kumamoto University Co-op and the Keiwakai, as well as free food distributions to 500 students.



Semiconductor Education (AY2024)
To raise awareness of semiconductor education and promote information on Kumamoto's semiconductor industry, we collaborated with Mr. KAWADA Tomu, AR 3 Brothers, to create educational materials, including "Semiconductor AR Application" and "Educational Video Explaining Semiconductor Technology" aimed at sparking children's interest in semiconductors.

 

Support for Short-Term Study Abroad Programs (AY2024)
Financial assistant was provided for students of the Global Leader Course to participate in short-term overseas study programs.

Donor Recognition

For Overseas Donations:

  • Donors from outside Japan who provide their email address will receive a digital certificate of appreciation.
  • With the donor's consent, their name will be published on teh Kumamoto University Fund website and in the university's quarterly public relations magazine, Kumadai Tsushin.
 

Additional Benefits for Large Donations

  • Upon request, the donor's name will be engraved on the Kumamoto University Fund Donor Plaque, located at the entrance of University Hall on the Kurokami South Campus, recognizing their lasting support.  



Note: Name engraving is reserved for donors classified as Special Contributing Members (individuals) or Contributing Members (corporations/organizations) and above.


 

Named Funds

For donations exceeding a certain amount, donors may establish a named fund to support scholarships, campus building projects, endowed courses, and more.

The Shinjo Takayoshi Fund
The Shinjo Takayoshi Fund was established to honor the passion for human resource development and the wishees of the late Mr. SHINJO Takayoshi founder of Fuji Die Co., Ltd. Created based on a generous donations from TSK Co., Ltd., formerly represented by his wife, Ms. SHINJO Hatsue, it supports students affected by the 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake, students in need of financial assistance for their studies, and those seeking opportunities to study abroad.
