President Ming-Lung Yu of Kaohsiung Medical University Pays Courtesy Visit to President Ogawa
On September 17, 2026, a delegation from Kaohsiung Medical University (KMU), Taiwan, led by President Ming-Lung Yu, visited Kumamoto University and paid a courtesy visit to President Hisao Ogawa.
This marked President Yu’s second visit to Kumamoto University since November 2025. During the meeting, President Yu expressed his pleasure at returning to Kumamoto University and noted that the productive discussions held during his previous visit had helped further develop collaboration between the two universities. He also expressed his delight that these developments had led to the signing ceremony for a Double Degree Program (DDP), scheduled for later that afternoon. President Ogawa likewise expressed his hope that the DDP would further expand opportunities for students and researchers from both universities to interact and collaborate.
The discussion also touched on the friendly relationship between the cities of Kumamoto and Kaohsiung, with both sides expressing their desire to further strengthen ties between the two universities. Faculty members from both universities introduced their respective fields of expertise and research activities, leading to a lively exchange of views. The conversation also turned to the upcoming “APASL Single Topic Conference (STC) 2026 Kumamoto”, chaired by Prof. Yasuhito Tanaka of Kumamoto University-who was also present at the meeting and shared that he and President Yu have co-authored 25 collaborative papers. The courtesy visit concluded in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
Later that afternoon, a DDP signing ceremony and a joint symposium were held between KMU and the Graduate School of Medical Sciences, Kumamoto University.
