Kumamoto University Taiwan Alumni Association Pays Courtesy Visit to President Ogawa
A delegation from the Kumamoto University Alumni Association in Taiwan, led by its President, Associate Professor Yun-Chuang Lai of National Taichung University of Science and Technology, visited Kumamoto University and paid a courtesy call on President Hisao Ogawa.
At the beginning of the meeting, the delegation expressed their sympathy and concern following the 2026 Kumamoto Earthquake. They then introduced the recent activities of the alumni association, which was established in February 2025, and exchanged views with Kumamoto University representatives on strengthening ties with alumni in Taiwan and further developing the alumni network.
While many members of the alumni association have backgrounds in the humanities and social sciences, further academic and research collaboration between Kumamoto University and universities in Taiwan is also expected in science and engineering fields, particularly in semiconductors. The participants also discussed opportunities for Taiwanese students to pursue employment and internships in Kumamoto and exchanged views on how alumni networks could contribute to further exchanges between Kumamoto and Taiwan.
Following the meeting, the delegation toured the campus, including the Memorial Museum of the Fifth High School. The visit is expected to further strengthen Kumamoto University’s alumni network in Taiwan and promote broader exchanges between Kumamoto and Taiwan.
