APSCE TBICS Festival of Learning 2026 Held in Kumamoto
The APSCE TBICS Festival of Learning 2026 was held in Kumamoto from June 25 to 27, 2026. The event brought together researchers, educators, practitioners, and students from Japan and abroad to discuss current developments in technology-enhanced learning, artificial intelligence in education, learning analytics, language education, computational thinking, and metaverse-related educational research. The Local Organizing Committee (LoC) was the Division of Instructional Systems of the Research and Educational Institute for Semiconductor and Informatics.The festival consisted of four co-located international conferences: AI3L (AI in Language Learning and Literacy), ICLEA (International Conference on Learning Evidence and Analytics), AI-CTE-STEM (AI, Computational Thinking and STEM Education), and AI-MetaACES (AI, Metaverse and Artificial Companions in Education and Society). Across these conferences, participants shared research findings through full papers, short papers, extended abstracts, and poster presentations. The program featured 4 Keynote talks (3 by international speakers and 1 by a speaker from Japan), 136 oral presentations, and 70 poster presentations. Approximately 260 participants from 17 countries attended the event, with around 90 joining the conference banquet on June 26 at the Ark Hotel Kumamoto. The banquet provided a valuable opportunity for invited speakers, committee members, presenters, and participants to interact in a relaxed setting and strengthen international academic connections.
The event also created a meaningful platform for emerging researchers and students to present their work, receive feedback, and engage with a global research community. Kumamoto University graduate students and alumni from the Graduate School of Instructional Systems gave oral and poster presentations. In addition, 10 high school students from Kumamoto Kita High School participated in the final poster session to present their ongoing research projects on AI and robotics. This provided members of the international research and practitioner community with an opportunity to interact with high school students and their teachers, who are the primary stakeholders in educational technology research.
The successful organization of TBICS 2026 highlighted Kumamoto University’s growing role in promoting international collaboration in educational technology, AI, data science, and learning sciences, while also fostering closer connections with regional stakeholders.
