Chief Research and Development Officer of Pacific Forum Visits Kumamoto University
On July 7, 2026, Mr. Akhil Ramesh, Chief Research and Development Officer (CRDO) of the Pacific Forum, a think tank headquartered in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA, visited Kumamoto University.
During his visit, Mr. Ramesh met with President Hisao Ogawa, Executive Vice President Jun Otani, and Distinguished Professor Hideki Wakabayashi. During the meeting, Mr. Ramesh introduced “Japan–U.S. Technology Policy Fellowship”, a program currently being offered by Pacific Forum.
“The Japan–U.S. Technology Policy Fellowship” is a first-of-its-kind initiative dedicated to strengthening Japan–U.S. cooperation in the semiconductor sector. Mr. Ramesh expressed his view that Kumamoto University and Kumamoto City are well positioned to serve as key academic and regional partners, respectively, in advancing this initiative.
Distinguished Professor Wakabayashi also stated that, with its strengths in semiconductor education and research, Kumamoto University hopes to contribute to the development of future leaders in the semiconductor industry and to the expansion of international networks through cooperation with the Japan–U.S. Technology Policy Fellowship.
As the core university in Kumamoto, one of Japan’s most important hubs for the semiconductor industry, Kumamoto University will continue to promote talent development and international collaboration in the semiconductor field.
