Delegation from National University of Kaohsiung, Taiwan, Visits Kumamoto University
On June 30, 2026, a delegation from National University of Kaohsiung (NUK), Taiwan, led by President Chi-Jen Chen, paid a courtesy visit to Kumamoto University. The delegation comprised senior NUK officials, including a vice president and the Dean of the Office of International Affairs. Officials from the Department of Administrative and International Affairs of the Kaohsiung City Government, along with representatives from the Education Bureau, also accompanied the delegation. The visit provided an opportunity to exchange views not only on university-level collaboration, but also on the potential for broader regional cooperation.Prior to the courtesy visit, the delegation toured the Memorial Museum of the Fifth High School. Two Kumamoto University Campus Museum Student Ambassadors gave the delegation a guided tour of the museum in English, introducing the history of Kumamoto University and the former Fifth High School. The delegation listened attentively to the students’ explanations and gained a deeper understanding of the University’s history and traditions.
Following the museum tour, the delegation paid a courtesy call on President Hisao Ogawa. Also in attendance from Kumamoto University were Executive Vice President Jun Otani; Dr. Yutaka Fujita, Dean of the Graduate School of Education and Faculty of Education; and Dr. Saori Nishikawa, Associate Professor in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
During the meeting, participants exchanged views on further strengthening collaboration between Kumamoto University and NUK, which have an inter-university exchange agreement. Discussions focused on expanding academic and student exchanges, as well as exploring the possibility of developing collaboration in new fields, including semiconductors.
This visit served as a valuable opportunity to further develop inter-university exchange between Kumamoto University and National University of Kaohsiung, while also exploring the potential for regional collaboration between Kaohsiung and Kumamoto. Kumamoto University will continue to promote the internationalization of education and research and contribute to local communities through collaboration with overseas universities and regions.
