Public Affairs Officer from U.S. Consulate Fukuoka Visits Kumamoto University and Attached Schools

On June 15, Ms. Morgan Cassell, Public Affairs Officer from the United States Consulate Fukuoka, visited Kumamoto University to engage in a vibrant cultural and academic exchange with 64 undergraduate students from the School of Informatics.

During her presentation, Ms. Cassell shared insights into her diverse international background, her career path, and the vital roles played by U.S. Embassies and Consulates worldwide. Her interactive approach, filled with engaging questions, immediately established a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

The subsequent Q&A session highlighted the students' wide-ranging curiosity. Inquiries spanned from professional advice—such as overcoming nervousness and managing career challenges—to personal interests, future AI trends, and life goal settings. Notably, when discussing the core values of her profession, Ms. Cassell emphasized the importance of maintaining an open mind and heart when navigating diverse cultures. She also offered inspiring, practical advice on achieving dreams, encouraging students to stay focused on their goals, surround themselves with ambitious peers, and quietly take action. Her proactive approach of walking among the audience and passing the microphone directly to the students provided them with a unique opportunity to express their ideas firsthand. The session concluded in a highly congenial and harmonious atmosphere.

The following day, June 16, Ms. Cassell visited the Junior High School Attached to the Faculty of Education. The event was attended by approximately 500 students, including junior high schoolers and 5th and 6th-grade students from the elementary school’s international classes. Ms. Cassell hosted an interactive quiz on U.S. culture and facts, sparking enthusiastic participation before delivering her presentation and answering students' questions.

With the Attached Junior High School set to establish a new international class in the 2027 academic year, this timely visit served as a powerful catalyst in fostering a global mindset among the younger generation of students.
