Discussions Held on Establishing a Double Degree Program (DDP) with Kaohsiung Medical University

On May 22, 2026, Kumamoto University Graduate School of Medical Sciences held discussions with Kaohsiung Medical University (KMU), Taiwan, regarding the establishment of a Double Degree Program (DDP) at the graduate level.
 
The two universities signed a university-level academic exchange agreement in 2025, while the respective medical schools concluded a student exchange agreement. Since then, the institutions have promoted collaboration in the fields of medicine and life sciences, as well as student exchange activities. In addition, both institutions have continued discussions toward the establishment of the DDP through a series of online meetings and consultations.
 
On this occasion, Associate Dean Jun-ichirou Yasunaga of the Graduate School of Medical Sciences, Kumamoto University, visited KMU and held discussions with faculty members and international affairs staff regarding the implementation of the DDP. The discussions covered topics such as academic and research supervision systems, curriculum requirements, degree conferral, and student support frameworks.
 
Both universities also confirmed their intention to proceed with internal coordination and institutional procedures toward signing the agreement around October 2026.
 
Through collaboration with international partner institutions, Kumamoto University continues to expand international educational and research opportunities for students and researchers. The establishment of the DDP is expected to further strengthen international collaborative education and research exchange in the field of medical sciences.
