Visit from Indiana University: Information Session on English Program

On April 14, 2026, Prof. Thomas A. Upton, Associate Dean of the School of Liberal Arts at Indiana University Indianapolis, visited Kumamoto University and delivered an information session on the university and its English language program.

The session was supported by Associate Professor Keiko Kuriyama of Kumamoto University, who previously taught at Indiana University. Her experience helped provide students with clear and practical insights.

The program is a two-week intensive English course designed for Kumamoto University students. Participants study English in the morning and engage in cultural activities, such as city tours and interactions with local students, in the afternoon. They also stay with host families, allowing them to experience daily life in the U.S.

The program is scheduled for September 2026 and is currently open for applications. Financial support may be available through university funding and scholarships.

Around 10 students attended the session, showing strong interest in the program. Through videos introducing the university and the city of Indianapolis, students gained a better understanding of studying abroad and expressed increased motivation.Applications for this program are being accepted until May 7, 2026, so we encourage students who were unable to attend this session to actively consider applying.
