A Delegation from Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (Thailand) Visited Kumamoto University
On April 17, 2025, a delegation of 10 members mainly from Thailand’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation (MHESI) visited Kumamoto University. The group was welcomed by Professor Toshihiro Ihara, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and the Graduate School of Science and Technology; Professor Makoto Takafuji, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering; Professor Yukio Sato and Professor Yasuyuki Morita from the Faculty of Engineering.During the meeting, Ms. Varaporn Rungtrakarn, Deputy Permanent Secretary of MHESI, outlined the purpose of their visit. MHESI is currently focusing on human resource development in the semiconductor field as one of its flagship projects, and Kumamoto University has become a model for such initiatives in Japan. The delegation expressed interest in learning about the university’s approach, particularly in the design of educational programs and collaboration with industry partners. Additionally, they sought insights into the system that allows students from National Institute of Technology (KOSEN), Kumamoto College to transfer and enroll at Kumamoto University, as Thailand is facing similar needs in this regard.
In response, Professor Ihara provided an overview of Kumamoto University to help the delegation better understand the institution’s structure and distinctive features. Professor Sato, Chair of the Department of Semiconductor Program and Program Chair of the Semiconductor System Program, then provided in-depth insights into the university’s efforts in semiconductor education and research, which led to an engaging and productive discussion.
Following the meeting, the delegation visited Kumamoto University's clean room, offering them an in-depth look at how the university conducts education and research related to semiconductors.
