Kumamoto University Delegation Visited Mahidol University (Thailand) to Discuss Future JDP Plans
On February 6, 2025, a delegation from Kumamoto University, led by Professor Hiroyuki Oshiumi, Vice Director of the Graduate School of Medical Sciences, Professor Seiji Okada from the Joint Research Center for Human Retrovirus Infection, and Kenji Kakuta, Executive Director of the International Affairs Department, visited the Faculty of Medicine at Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University in Thailand. The delegation held a productive discussion on future plans for the Joint Degree Program (JDP).The visit began with a welcoming address from Professor Aasis Unnanuntana, the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, followed by an overview of both universities. During the meeting, lively discussions were held on current and future initiatives, including the ongoing implementation of the Double Degree Program (DDP) at both institutions. After the meeting, the group participated in a tour of the medical research laboratories at Mahidol University.
Kumamoto University and Mahidol University signed an inter-university exchange agreement in 2013 and have been conducting the DDP between Kumamoto University’s Graduate School of Medical Sciences and Mahidol University’s Faculty of Medicine at Siriraj Hospital since 2018. In March 2024, the Kumamoto University Thailand Alumni Association was established, further strengthening the university’s ties with Thailand. Following this visit, it is anticipated that the exchange between the two universities will deepen, and the overall collaboration with Thailand will continue to grow.
