Visit by UAAT (Taiwan) Member Universities for the Integrated Collaboration Project on Sciences
On the afternoon of November 18, Kumamoto University warmly welcomed a distinguished delegation from five member universities of the University Academic Alliance in Taiwan (UAAT): National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), National Tsing Hua University (NTHU), National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU), National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU), and National Chung Hsing University (NCHU). These universities play a central role in the Integrated Collaboration Project on Sciences, spearheaded by NCKU. The delegation included senior executives overseeing research and development, alongside faculty members specializing in various scientific disciplines. The visit was conducted under the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for international cooperation between UAAT and the Kyushu-Okinawa Open University (KOOU) platform, of which Kumamoto University is a member. The primary objective of the visit was to foster deeper international collaboration in research and education, with a strong emphasis on the sciences.
Representing Kumamoto University, Executive Vice President Jun Otani, Vice President Mitsuyo Kishida, and deans and faculty members from relevant fields participated in the meeting. Executive Vice President Otani inaugurated the session with a warm welcome and a comprehensive overview of Kumamoto University, followed by an insightful presentation by Dean Hiroshi Isobe of the Faculty of Science, who highlighted the faculty’s academic and research initiatives. The session continued with NCKU’s Executive Vice President Hong-Chen Chen presenting the UAAT-KOOU collaborative projects. Representatives from each of the five member universities then delivered detailed presentations introducing their institutions and proposing potential avenues for collaboration, laying the groundwork for future partnerships.
Following the discussions, the delegation visited the Magnesium Research Center at Kumamoto University. The tour showcased the university's groundbreaking research in magnesium alloys, underscoring its commitment to innovation and global impact in scientific research.
This visit not only deepened mutual understanding but also served as a platform for meaningful exchanges and productive discussions on advancing collaboration in the sciences. It marked a significant milestone in strengthening the UAAT-KOOU partnership and set the stage for continued progress in joint research and education initiatives.
