Party Secretary of Guangxi Normal University Visit Kumamoto University
On September 21, 2023, Dr. He Zubin, the Party Secretary of Guangxi Normal University (GXNU) in China, paid a courtesy call to President Hisao Ogawa. Also present were Dr. Jun Otani, Executive Vice President, Dr. Yutaka Fujita, Dean of the Faculty of Education, and Mr. Kenji Kakuta, Executive Director of the International Affairs Department.
GXNU is a national comprehensive university established in 1932 in Guilin City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Southern China. GXNU serves as a pivotal institution in the region. It is highly regarded nationwide for its rich history and tradition. Kumamoto University (KU) and GXNU signed an inter-university academic exchange agreement in 2005 and have been conducting student exchanges mainly in the field of education since then.
During the meeting, President Ogawa first welcomed Party Secretary He. The participants then reviewed past exchange achievements and engaged in a discussion on how to further promote future exchanges. After that, Party Secretary He met with three international students who are currently studying at KU, and they had a talk about student life at KU.
After the meeting, Party Secretary He and international students toured the Kurokami Campus, which was a great opportunity for them to deepen their understanding of KU through visiting historical buildings designated as an important cultural property, such as the Memorial Museum of the Fifth High School.
KU has concluded inter-university academic exchange agreements with 25 Chinese institutions and inter-department academic exchange agreements with 15 Chinese institutions. Currently, over 250 Chinese students are pursuing their studies at KU.
