Kumamoto University welcomes HRH Princess Chulabhorn of Thailand

On December 23rd, 2022, Kumamoto University welcomed Professor Dr. Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Mahidol and Thai delegates for the signing of academic and student exchange agreements between the Chulabhorn Research Institute (CRI), the Chulabhorn Graduate Institute (CGI) and Kumamoto University (KU).

HRH Princess Chulabhorn’s envoy included representatives from CRI, CGI, prominent Thai universities, the Royal Thai Embassy in Tokyo and the Royal Thai Consulate General in Fukuoka. The Thai delegation was joined by President Ogawa and other top officials from KU for the signing ceremony. To commemorate the occasion, Her Royal Highness gave a special lecture on her research on cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer) after the ceremony.

HRH Princess Chulabhorn is a distinguished researcher and the president of CRI and its affiliated institution, CGI. She is enthusiastic about the promotion of academic excellence and has been interested in partnering with KU to conduct joint research, especially in cancer. With the conclusion of this agreement, we will advance research into anticancer and antiviral drugs, and begin work on establishing a double degree graduate education program between our institutions.

We hope that this agreement will encourage further exchange between CRI/CGI and KU, and expand those interactions into new and exciting areas.

The signing ceremony and special lecture were broadcast on Thai television and can be viewed at the following links.
