Message from President Ogawa Regarding the Earthquakes in Turkey and Syria
We are deeply saddened by the loss of life and destruction caused by the powerful earthquakes that struck Turkey and Syria on February 6th. On behalf of Kumamoto University, I send my heartfelt condolences to all those affected by this devastating tragedy.
A similar double event happened here in April 2016, but the intensities of the Kumamoto earthquakes were not as extreme. The damage caused by the Turkey-Syria earthquake is unimaginable and we are heartbroken by the resulting losses. Our deepest respect goes to the people engaged in the rescue and relief efforts. Kumamoto University will make every effort to help those affected overcome this difficult situation.
We pray for the safety of the people suffering from this earthquake and sincerely hope that these two countries will recover and rebuild very soon.
