“THE Impact Rankings 2022” Kumamoto University ranks top 300 in world and 8th in Japan
The British higher education magazine Times Higher Education released the "THE Impact Ranking 2022" on April 28, 2022 (Japan time). This year, Kumamoto University ranked eighth in Japan and 201-300th in the world (out of 1406 universities), a significant improvement from last year's 401-600th place.
The THE Impact Ranking is a university ranking system that measures and compares the social contribution efforts of universities through the framework of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The overall ranking is calculated by combining the scores of the mandatory SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) and the next top three among the remaining 16 SDG goals.
This year, Kumamoto University entered eight of the 17 SDGs and ranked in the top 100 globally for three of them: 55th for SDG 17, 88th for SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), and 95th for SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation).
In Japan, the university ranked third in SDG 17, tied for fourth in SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and tied for fifth in SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production).
Kumamoto University will continue to work as "One Team" to advance sustainability goals like the SDGs to help create a better future for all.
