Opening Ceremony for Kumamoto University Historical Architecture
The Memorial Museum of the Fifth High School had been closed due to damage sustained in the Kumamoto Earthquakes of 2016, and repairs were finally completed.
To celebrate the completion, we will hold an opening ceremony for Kumamoto University Historical Architecture on March 23rd, 2022. A ribbon-cutting ceremony and excursion will be held during this event.
We plan to open our historical and cultural architecture and materials to the public under the Kumamoto University Campus Museum concept. The Memorial Museum of the Fifth High School is the core of this concept and is scheduled to open to the public this spring.
-- The Memorial Museum of the Fifth High School
The Fifth High School was established for young boys as the most prominent educational institution in Kyushu in 1887. Jigoro Kano, Yakumo Koizumi (Lafcadio Hearn) as well as Soseki Natsume were
among the more celebrated professors who taught here. Even after 130 years, the original Fifth High School building is still well-maintained and very much appreciated by the public.
