Student Emergency Aid for Continuance of Studies (3rd round application)

  We will begin accepting applications for the “Student Emergency Aid for Continuance of Studies” for students who, in principle, live away from home independent from their parents, live on their own part-time income, and have decreased part-time work income due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
 
Applicable Students
  Students enrolled in the Kumamoto University's undergraduate and graduate schools, Yogo teacher training special course and diploma course in special needs education, including international students. * International students must be currently residing in Japan.
  (The following students are not eligible: credited auditors, research students, special auditing students (exchange students), and special research students (exchange research students).
Those who have already received their benefits in the designated account after applying for the first and second round of application in January and February 2022 will not be able to apply for the this round of application.

Handout Recipient Requirements
  Students who, in principle, live away from home independent from their parents, live on their own part-time income, and have decreased part-time work income due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
  All of the following requirements ① through ⑤ must be met. Proof that you meet these requirements will be confirmed by the application form and attached documents of proof. Even if you do not meet all of the requirements, you may still be able to apply depending on your situation so please consult with us in advance. For consultation, please send your details to the e-mail address listed in the "Contact Us" section.
 
① You are not living in a supporter's residence OR you are living in a supporter's residence but you are not receiving support from family. 
② You are not receiving a significant amount of funding from your family. *About 1.5 million yen or more per year, including tuition but not including the admission fee.
③ Due to a loss of income for your family (parents) or other such reason, you do not expect to receive additional support from family.
④ Income from your part-time work has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and you come under one of the following 1 to 3.
*If your part-time job is eligible for support under the employment adjustment subsidy and you have been paid a leave allowance by your employer, then this allowance will be considered part-time income.
  1. You are continuously unable to receive the expected amount of part-time income.
  2. You have a significant (50% or more) decrease in part-time income since January 2020, and the situation has not improved in the current fiscal year.
  3. Even though your part-time income has reached a stable level, your financial situation at home has worsened and requires an increase in your part-time income, making it difficult to continue your studies.
⑤ Applicants must have received one of the following: the Kumamoto University AMABIE Scholarship, a scholarship from a private organization or company, or the Monbukagakusho Honors Scholarship for Privately Financed International Students.

【Application Procedures】
  Please download the application documents and fill out the following FORM1 "Application for student Emergency Aid for Continuance of Studies" (original) and FORM 2 "Oath" (original) and attach documentation proving that you meet the aid criteria (copy) *Refer to the page 7-8 of Application guide, and submit them only by mail using the “Letter-pack light”.

  Please be sure to include the following information in the "3. Matters to be notified"
・For requirement (3), fill in the situation of the decrease in family income and the reason why additional support from the family cannot be expected any more.
・For requirement (4), describe the situation regarding the item you selected regarding part-time job income. If you are unable to submit documents proving part-time job income, describe the situation (e.g., unable to submit due salary received by hand).
・For requirement (5), if you selected 3), describe the status of the university's economic support (use of tuition exemption, Amabie benefits, etc.), use of Monbukagakusho Honors Scholarship for Privately Financed International Students (including planned use), and use of private scholarships (including planned use).

※Documentation providing that you meet the aid criteria must be attached.
・Documents proving that you are living independently from your family.
Either a copy of the rental contract, a copy of the latest utility bill, or a copy of the certificate of residence.
・Documents proving your part-time income (e.g. pay stub, copy of bankbook of the account to be transferred)   If you can’t submit any certification about your part-time job income, please submit “Declaration of Part-time Job Income” the below.

・Please submit documents that show the income decrease for two consecutive months after January 2020. If the document you prepared is for FY2020, please attach a document that shows the decrease in revenue has not improved yet in FY2021.
・Copy of certificate of receipt of private scholarship or  the Monbukagakusho Honors Scholarship for Privately Financed International Students (if available)
・A copy of the bankbook of the bank account you wish to transfer funds to (the page with the account holder's name in katakana and account number)
* If you are unable to submit a copy of your bankbook because you are managing your account online, please submit a screenshot of your online account showing the account holder and account number.

  Friday, March 11, 2022 - Tuesday, March 15, 2022 [Strict deadline]
  Please be sure to submit the application in complete condition (no incomplete or missing documents).

Notification of the results
If your application is approved, the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) will transfer the benefit directly to the account at the financial institution you filled out on your application form.
Please note that neither JASSO nor the university will notify you individually of the result. The timing of the transfer is yet to be determined. Please confirm by writing in your bankbook.
