Damage Report regarding the Earthquake
Information accurate as of 05:00pm, Sunday, April 17th, 2016.

1. Casualties
Five cases of light injury have been reported from the staff and faculty of Kumamoto University.
The safety of 5,777 (4,162 Japanese students, 303 international students, 1,312 students of University affiliated schools) has been confirmed. The safety of the remaining students, the staff and faculty is still under investigation.

2. Material damage
Damage has occurred to some cultural properties including the Memorial Museum of the Fifth High School, and the areas of those buildings are off-limits.
An emergency danger assessment has been implemented for university facilities, and buildings deemed dangerous will not be used, while others will be used with due caution.
Laboratory equipment has suffered falling damage. Currently, there is no report of damage with regard to chemicals, etc. The extent of the damage is still under investigation.

3. University Hospital
The University Hospital is treating patients who are suffering from injury due to the earthquake, including seriously injured patients admitted from other hospitals. Emergency cases have been increasing and there is a shortage of beds in the hospital. Due to a declining reserve of water, the hospital is receiving support and water from other universities.

4. Utilities
Electricity is supplied as usual. However, Kumamoto city water and city utility gas supplies have been stopped. In campuses where water wells are available, water has been purified and provided for use.
Other conditions are currently under investigation.

5. Evacuation Zones
The North Kurokami Campus Gymnasium and sports field and the General Education Building, as well as the Oe gymnasium have been established as evacuation shelters supported by student volunteers.
Kyushu university and Nagasaki university have been providing support due to the shortage of relief supplies. Relief supplies, however, are continuously lacking, so when you are evacuating, please bring water, food, and clothing for cold weather.

Although aftershocks continue, we will strive to comprehend the extent of the damage and ensure the safety of our University.
