New International Student Residences Opened

Kumamoto University conducted an opening ceremony to celebrate the newly constructed  residences for international students and researchers

On December 26, 2009,  Kumamoto University conducted an opening ceremony to celebrate the newly constructed residences which have been added on to the existing International House.

At the ceremony, the President of Kumamoto University, Professor Taniguchi, gave the following brief address:Our goal is to promote globalization and to create an international environment where Japanese students can learn together with top-class researchers and students who are coming here from all over the world.

In order to facilitate the goals we have set, we have made great efforts to creating better educational surroundings as well as good housing conditions. We are determined to continue to promote internationalization within the university well into the future.

Following the speeches of the president and the vice president of Kumamoto University, Marquardt Richad, a student from the University of Leeds, England spoke. Mr. Richad is studying in the Kumamoto University, Faculty of Letters. He gave the following comments on behalf of the residents.
“ A  good living environment will create a good learning outcome.  With this ideal environment that Kumamoto University offers, I will work hard for the sake of  Japan,  Kumamoto, and  Kumamoto University.”

The newly constructed residences for international students and researchers are Residence C and Residence D, made up of 36 units each of shared rooms. These residences have 4 rooms with a kitchen, living room, and bathroom.  Residence E is made up of 48 units of single rooms.

Kumamoto University now offers 232 rooms for international students and researchers in total including the existing Residence A made up of 55 units and Residence B made up of 57 units. We are ready to accommodate our international students and researchers in up to date and comfortable housing facilities.
